Paul Merton In Europe

Germany

Paul has never visited the economic powerhouse before, but he also discovers the country has its lighter side. At an Alpine spa, he gets up close and personal with the locals in a bath full of beer. In Berlin, he meets members of an anti-fascist movement who dress up as Nazis. In a wood not far from Frankfurt, he discovers a family happily sanding down their latest wooden dildos. And in Bavaria, he spends the night in jail…

Ireland

From the one of the strongest nations in Europe to one of its smallest, Ireland. This is Paul’s most personal travel odyssey yet, as he explores a place that is closest to his heart. The Emerald Isle was where his mother was born, and where his happiest memories occurred. But there is no time to reminisce as he finds himself reborn through a giant-toothed vagina, hitches a ride with a Nazi platoon and is compelled to think fast before being knocked out by cannonballs.

Italy

Not exactly rested after his trip around Ireland, Paul finds the next nation on his list promises even less time to catch his breath. Can Paul survive Italy? With no language skills and unreliable guides, Paul begins to wonder if he can survive Rome, let alone the whole country. En route, he discovers a footballer living in a shop, finds macho men learning to do the housework, and stays in a strange hotel owned by an eccentric shoemaker.

France

In France, Paul expects to finally find refuge from the onslaught. However, in the peaceful vineyards of Champagne he finds a battle raging, in the most civilised suburbs of Lyon there lies the dark and unnerving world of Monsieur Ehrmann and his Abode of Chaos, and even the beauty of the Alps is disturbed by a man covered in wheels who speeds round the hairpin bends on his belly at 100kph (kilometres per hour).

Spain

By the time Paul arrives in Spain, he is expecting the unexpected – and he is not disappointed. Acrobatic bullfighters, 200-person-strong human towers and a daredevil who throws himself off mountains provides final proof that travelling with Paul Merton is never a smooth ride, least of all for him!
